John was born and raised in a small village in west Clare. He studied Biochemistry and Microbiology at the University of Galway and worked in Ireland before moving to Switzerland in 2000. Since then, he has worked as a teacher, boarding supervisor and for the last 17 years as a careers and university counsellor at the Institut auf dem Rosenberg and International School Altdorf. He has also just been offered a position as university advisor at Leysin American School in Switzerland. Recently he was elected Vice-Chair of the Swiss+ Counsellor network, which is a network of counsellors at international schools in Switzerland. John is fluent in English, German and Swiss German and is happiest when he can escape to the mountains hiking.
