Conor Slater

Basel Chapter Co-Lead

Conor is a MedTech regulatory expert and deep-tech entrepreneur with a background in microengineering. He is a Senior Medical Device Expert at Effectum Medical AG, where he advises startups, university spin-offs and manufacturers on software as a medical device, machine learning validation and EU regulations including the MDR, IVDR and AI Act.

Conor holds a PhD in Robotics and Manufacturing Systems from EPFL, and his research has led to numerous publications and patents in sensor and medical technology. He co-founded an EPFL spin-off and has since held senior management roles at technology companies.

Born in Skibbereen, County Cork, and raised in North County Dublin, Conor moved to Switzerland in 2010 to start his doctorate. He serves as Basel Chapter Co-Lead on the IBN committee to help connect Irish founders, researchers and professionals in Switzerland. He lives in Liestal with his wife and two children, and enjoys hiking and history books. He is also grateful to craft beer for turning drinking into a hobby.
