MEMBER PROFILE: Orla Greevy

Orla was born in Dublin in 1963 and grew up in Clontarf. She studied Computer Science in Trinity College Dublin and graduated in 1984. After working in Dublin for two years implementing airline communications software she left Ireland in 1986 to work for as a Software Engineer for the telecommunications company, Hasler AG in Berne, Switzerland.
She completed a Master of Science in Computer Science by Research from Trinity College Dublin in 1996. After working freelance for a number of years, Orla founded Sw-eng Software Engineering GmbH in Berne, in 1998. In 2003 she applied for and was awarded the Marie Heim Vögtlin scholarship for Women in Scientific Research embarked on a PhD. at the University of Berne, which she completed in 2007. Her field of research focused on Software Engineering and she published many scientific publications during this time. Orla is married and has two sons, Kevin (born 1993) and Brian (born 1996) and today works as CEO and IT professional for Sw-eng. Software Engineering GmbH. She still maintains close links to her research at the University of Berne.
