Zurich, which has a long-standing presence in Ireland, has been on a 2 year recruitment drive since the end of 2008 involving the creation of 240 new jobs by the end of 2010. This will bring the total number employed by the company in Ireland to 1,100.

Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation, Batt O’Keeffe T.D welcomed Martin Senn, CEO of Zurich Financial Services Group (Zurich) to Ireland, noting: ‘World-leader Zurich has chosen Ireland as the European centre for its strategically important operations - a strong endorsement of our highly educated and flexible workforce in the financial services sector.  

‘The creation of 240 positions which will all be filled by the end of the year demonstrates Zurich’s commitment to growth in Ireland and reaffirms the Government’s confidence in our ability to recover from recession,’ said Minister O’Keeffe.

SIBN Country Coordinator Valerie Gürtler-Doyle recently sat down with Irish publication The Market to speak about her career in global pharma, her involvement with the Business Network and her views on doing business in Switzerland.  The Market is Enterprise Ireland’s magazine promoting the internationalisation of Irish companies. Each issue features interviews with experienced Irish exporters, country reports, overseas market opportunities in specific sectors, a legal briefing and trade regulation updates, plus analysis and advice.

Around 50 people,  invited by the Swiss-Irish Business Network and by the government agency Enterprise Ireland, gathered in the Weinkeller of the James Joyce Pub in Zürich on January 27, 2010. 
Guest speaker for the evening was Simon Mc Dowell from the Financial Services team in Enterprise Ireland, Dublin.

His presentation gave an insight into the Irish financial marketplace and also highlighted the innovations and success stories from indigenous Irish financial service companies.

In contrast to the current gloomy times, Simon presented  real positive news and successes coming out of Ireland.
